Savannah Lakes Village, Monticello Golf Club

Tucked away on the shores of Lake Thurmond in McCormick, SC, the Monticello Golf Club at Savannah Lakes Village is not the kind of golf course you are going to stumble upon accidentally. In fact, stepping on the first tee of this beautiful course, you feel like you've discovered a hidden gem. That feeling returns time and time again throughout the round. Monticello was the second of two 18 hole courses designed by Tom Clark for the 4,000 acre community.

Monticello is geographically blessed with plenty of land surrounding the course. Clark took great advantage of this and created a course that unfolds hole by hole like an epic novel. Clark was able to weave the course through mature tree stands and harmoniously blend the topography into an exciting round of golf. The course's elements of playability and aesthetics are dramatically impacted by the Strom Thurmond Reservoir, and two manmade lakes that come into play on the back nine. Though the course might be light on the pocket book, it will challenge the mental fortitude of the greatest of golfers.

The tremendous variety of distances requires every club in the bag and keeps the round interesting. For instance, the four finishing holes are (in order): 320-yard par 4; 557-yard par 5; 226-yard par 3; 378-yard par 4; and 439-yard par 4. Trust me, after you finish that gauntlet of golf holes, you definitely feel like you've accomplished something.
